Programs

Scholarships

The GFWC Agawam Junior Women's Club donates scholarships to Agawam students who will be attending a two or four year college following their high school graduation.

All Agawam students, both male and female, are eligible to apply. In addition a Mouneimneh Teaching Scholarship is also offered to a high school graduate pursuing a career in education. No affiliation with the GFWC AJWC is necessary.

Town Wide

Spelling Bee

Sponsored by the GFWC Agawam Junior Women's Club, students from grades four, five, and six will represent their classrooms in the Annual Spelling Bee.

First and second place winners will be awarded cash prizes in each grade. Each student will also receive a small participation award. We always look forward to seeing the year's spelling wiz kids.

Bingo for Books

This event is open to all children entering grades K-4 in the fall. Books are given as prizes. The GFWC Agawam Junior Women's Club is pleased to have the support of the Agawam Family & Community Program for donations of books.

It is held in the Agawam Public Library community room.

Hand Made Donations

COVID Emergency Response: Since March, club members have made and donated a total of 1,870 masks and 291 mask extenders. These were gifted to family and friends of the AJWC, nursing home staff, hospital workers, EMTs, nursery schools, homeless shelters, grocery story employees, and all those that asked.

Valentines For Vets: Each year club members put together goodie bags for veterans at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home.

Children’s Study Home: Twice a year the club puts together goodie bags for children at the Children’s Study Home.

Festival of Trees: Club members work together to donate and decorate a Christmas tree for the Big Brother Big Sisters of Springfield fundraiser in November. Members vote on a theme each year to decorate the tree that is displayed at the Mass Mutual Center.

Shriner's Hospitals for Children and March of Dimes: Shriner's donates blankets to their patients. March of Dimes Healthy Baby Program hosts baby showers for military families. Club members crochet and/or sew blankets from a smoke free/animal free environment to donate to both organizations.

Comfort Pillows:  Once or twice a year club members get together with the GFWC Wilbraham Women’s Club to cut, sew, and stuff a small sized pillow for use by cancer patients and others who may need comfort after surgery and during their recovery.

Guest Speakers

Club invites local officials and impact makers to our meetings to provide meaningful discussion, hot topics, motivate our members as well as keep meetings exciting and upbeat.

Safety Bug Program

Children entering kindergarten are usually excited yet uneasy about riding on a school bus for the very first time. This safety program for First Time Bus Riders allows children and their parents to practice the proper way to cross the street, approach the school bus, and ride on the school bus.

The GFWC Agawam Juniors have a mascot "Safety Bug" who guides the children and rides on the bus with them during the program.

Sundaes and Stories with Santa

The GFWC Agawam Junior Women’s Club hosts their annual family Santa event in December.

Included in admission: visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a picture with Santa, letters to Santa (including return address) for a personal reply in the mail, and a StoryWalk and one free holiday book per child (provided by The Agawam Family & Community Program). Other activities will include Christmas coloring and a “hot toy” raffle.

Ice Cream Social

Ice cream is served while visiting with Veterans at the Holyoke Soldiers Home.

The GFWC Agawam Junior Women’s Club members, friends, and family members look forward to this yearly event.
